After 11 Years, a Trip to Australia

Gillian Welch and David Rawlings will make a long awaited return to Australian shores in January and February in 2016 for not one but two very special tours.

Playing as the duo, Gillian Welch, in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, they will then transform into the quintet of the Dave Rawlings Machine for the drive back down the East Coast. Brisbane, Bangalow, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne will all get to experience the first ever visit by the Machine.

“We are very excited, once again, to be bringing our songs and our selves, and a few of our good friends, all the way from Tennessee to the land of Australia way down under. We will be driving the wild back roads from Perth to Melbourne, Sydney to Brisbane… come out and say howdy when we roll in to town!” – Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Nashville, Tenn.

Dave Rawlings Machine play in support of the recently released and critically acclaimed album Nashville Obsolete which features seven original compositions written by Welch-Rawlings. The Machine live band will feature Dave and Gillian, as well as Willie Watson, Punch Brother Paul Kowert and incredible fiddler Brittany Haas.

This will be the first Gillian tour in Australia since the GRAMMY nominated release The Harrow and the Harvest (2011), with the last tour down under wrapping up in 2004, following the releases of Soul Journey, and the 2001 masterpiece Time (The Revelator). The last tour stopped at such venues as the grandeous Forum Theatre in Melbourne to the tiny Meeniyan Town Hall, where they slayed ‘em all in shows that continue to be talked about.

All Australian tour dates will go on sale next Tuesday, Dec 1st, at 9am local time. See all dates below and visit gillianwelch.com for all news and tour updates.

– Uncut Magazine (8/10 Stars)

“…another haunting collection of deep folk, simultaneously timeless and incapable of being made by anybody else”
– Relix Magazine

“They are the kind of songs that you listen closely to because you are sure the singer has something important to tell you…”

New Dave Rawlings Machine music video

Dave Rawlings Machine is pleased to announce the release of their first music video, ‘The Weekend.’ The video was shot on a breakneck road trip from Nashville to California. “It was the craziest idea,” says Rawlings, “to document a weekend trip from Music City to the beach and back.” The opening scene shows Rawlings and Welch packing up the ’65 Chevy Impala they first toured in. West-coast bound, outfitted in Nudie Suits and armed with guitars and a beach blanket, the story unfolds over the course of ‘The Weekend.’ The trip is real, the breakdown is real, the mechanic is real, unplanned, but evidence that Dave Rawlings Machine will go wherever the road leads them.
